I guess it's kind of like a new year's resolution. A lot of times after a week or two, you slowly drift away from making that effort. Of course, that doesn't mean I'll stop this "project" altogether. It'll probably only be from time to time.

With that being said, I get Monday off, and I have no class on Tuesdays. While my workload has gone off the charts, I enjoy having my schedule the way it is. Having two days a week to rest and recuperate really pays dividends in the long run, I feel.

Year Three

Nearing the start of another school year. I am, like any other year, excited for the coming year. However, I'd like to get through this year without any setbacks, drama, for lack of a better word, and life-changing events. I've been through too many of those my first two years of college and I feel, as a result, have affected my academic performance in school. Despite my usually calm and optimistic tone on this blog, I have had a rough go at things the past two years. Again, if I get through the year with little to no setbacks, I may finally be able to get past the proverbial hump and have something I can hang my hat on.

I've had two up-mostly down years at UCSD and in life in general. Hopefully this will be a year of mainly 'ups' and things starts to turn in my favor a little bit. It'll be an interesting year, no doubt.

But I'll tell you, having to wake up at 7 every morning, while difficult and tiring as hell, makes the day seem way longer. Seriously though by mid-day I feel like a day has already passed and I lose track of the days.

Maybe I do need 5 years of this college thing...

Theoretically, I can finish all of my upper-division classes and GEs to be able to graduate.
Though realistically, it will most likely come at a cost of a fairly low GPA, something that I am not down with.

I've never really been opposed to 5 years, although I'll be the first to admit that I saw myself graduating in 4. But if taking 5 years is the better option for me, at this point that's okay.

Finally choosing my major, planning out the next two+ years of courses has, in a way, given me a new found motivation that I hope is here to stay.

After not getting into the bio department as a Physiology&Neuroscience major, I was at a loss. That is until I came upon this major and realized that the classes needed to be taken were essentially the same.

The work will continue to pile up from here on out but I feel good about this opportunity that has presented itself.

I guess a lot of people are being scared off by the "ridiculously hard" label that is known as Phys2B. No matter, so long as I get in. It's a class that has to be taken. I have no doubt I'll get into physics; now I have to worry about getting into Bio and my writing class.

But that'll have to wait for 2011. In the meanwhile, finals are over and done with! Time to party and relax.

In a little over two weeks I've moved 41 spots. What up.

I played basketball for the first time in a very long while this past Wednesday. I gotta say it was very much needed. So much of the stress that I was dealing with over the course of the quarter just went away. I feel like if I had been playing basketball regularly, I'd have done a lot better in my classes; or anything fun for that matter. Basketball keeps me sane. And even though I stayed on top of my shit, I couldn't focus on anything because I had my mind on other things going on in my life. Nevertheless, I feel good about this quarter and hope next quarter will be better.

I seem to fare better in summer school. In the two classes I've taken at PCC and Rio Hondo, I've gotten A's in both. Yet I barely managed above a 2.0 at SD. Maybe it's the level of difficulty of institutions or if it's just a mental thing.

Whatever it may be, it's an encouraging sign, getting that A in history. This and a summer of reflection, I feel like I'm headed in the right direction.

So there’s a site called Lakersmix.com; it’s a blogspot concerning everything Lakers, from rumors to news. And I write for them as one of their blog writers. I joined a few months ago, around March/April and wrote one article and have not written one since then. Until today that is. I visited the site today again after about a two month hiatus and realized, “I’m a blogger I should be cranking out articles for people to read.” After all it is everything Lakers so the possibilities of what to write about are endless. And you know, this is something that I’ve always been interested in doing; writing about sports. I read articles in the newspaper and on ESPN all the time and have found an interest in it. Which is why I’m going to try to write more, at least for the summer, since I have the time. And plus, I think I’m a pretty decent writer, to say the least.

Of course, the graders of the Writing Placement exam last year and the UCSD Muir Writing Department did not think, as I didn’t pass the placement exam AND the exit exam after taking the remedial writing class. That’s actually kind of funny, that I had I failed twice and had to appeal in order to start my GE Writing sequence. Can you believe that? Now, I'm saying my writing is top-notch, but it is definitely satisfactory on the college level. But you know what? Truth be told, my writing style hasn’t changed at all since high school. That same style of writing got me a B in my Muir40(writing) class spring quarter; and an A- on one of my papers. Looking back on that class, I couldn’t help but question what those graders were looking for in my writing. It’s obviously college level writing, in my opinion and according to my T.A. I felt like taking the remedial writing class was a complete waste of my time and completely fucked up my fall quarter and as a result, my first year.

It's been a while since I've written here. Apologies for the neglect, Blogger. I just felt like updating you all of the happenings in my life because that's what a blog is supposed to be right? And by you all, it's probably just Kerry. Haha. But, we press on.

SO, first year of college has now come and gone and I'm nearing the 4th week of summer vacation. I can honestly say spring quarter was my most successful quarter thus far, grade-wise, because let's face it, my first two quarters were absolutely terrible, even for non-Asian standards. No racial. I still have a huge mountain to climb before I get back to respectability and where I want to be, but it can and will be done. I've realized I have had to adjust my work ethic and, most important, my attitude towards my work and, ultimately, my future. Unlike my suitemates and other friends and UCSD, I don't have to luxury of slacking off and still cruising to that A. I, on the other hand, have to work two, three times as hard to even keep up. Took a while to realize, but that's what freshmen year is for. You get used to the new environment and make adjustments. With that said, I am STOKED for second year.

SunGod was amazing. B.o.B was the best performance. Muir40 is kicking my ass right now; Paper#3 - pretty much the only thing I have to worry about this quarter. That, and psych. I've got to ace that final for a B. Damnit for not having a curve. 4 more weeks of school. First year really flew by. It was hella fun, not gonna lie. Despite all the unfortunate circumstances that went about. And even though I didn't join any clubs and have somewhat been isolated, it was a great experience nonetheless being in a suite full of people I could connect with. Housing for next year is all but set. Looking forward to my second year and actually joining clubs and all that. Doing intramurals again. Let's get this thing rolling.

I don't know what I'm doing for the summer. I was planning on taking classes at Rio Hondo/Mt. SAC but there aren't any classes that I can take that I can just take at SD. We'll see how things work out; maybe I'll get a job. I could certainly use the experience. Maybe an internship.

I've come to the conclusion that Chemistry and I will never have a working relationship. It hates me and I hate it; I just need to get my shit together and ace my final.

On the bright side, math and psych. are pretty chill. And I can also say that I'm no longer Undecided as far as majors go. Psychology, B.S.

And we made it to playoffs for IM's, game today at 10pm. I'm really happy about making playoffs; I never really got to experience it in high school and middle school so it's nice to be in the thick of things. I believe we had a good shot at winning it all.

We won again tonight for basketball IM's. 3-1 after a 59-44 win; and I've realized how much I missed playing basketball competitively. I mean sure I play at Rosemead park with the guys and it's fun, but it doesn't have the same rush as this; and I was on the team my freshmen year. That was the last time I've felt that rush. But it wasn't the same as now because we sucked my freshmen year. The fact that we're winning our games make it that much more fun. Basketball's been my passion for so long and it sucked not being able to play competitively for the past three, four years.
What makes it even more enjoyable is that I'm playing with my suitemates; there's so many things we have in common I feel more comfortable around them than I did with my high school friends at Rosemead. Don't get me wrong, my high school friends were great, but I'm way more connected with the friends I've made in college. It's true that, no matter how hard you try, high school friends will fade away. The majority of the friends you'll know in your lifetime will come from college.

But I digress...Basketball game was fun, good that we got the win. College is awesome. Good night.

I don't know if it's healthy or not, but I've been sleeping until 12pm, almost daily. Mainly, it has to due with the fact that my classes start at 2pm everyday; which is great, I just feel I'm wasting so much of my day away by sleeping so much. But at the same time, I'm sleeping at 3,4 am so I guess it's good since I'm getting my recommended 8 hours of sleep. Hah. In any case, winter quarter seems to be going to on right track. A few of my suitemates and I made an intramural team for basketball and that has helped alleviate some stress that's come with schoolwork. It would help to actually win a couple games though; granted we've only played one game.

Anyway, back to chem. That subject terrifies me the most for this quarter. Screw thermodynamics.

Though I'm not very big on New Year's resolutions, I thought I'd try some this time around, or at least one.

- Live up to my potential. I've been underachieving for awhile now and I've let my failures and shortcomings bog me down. I've realized that's a recipe for disaster. The academics part of school just isn't clicking like it used to.

For 80 degree weather it's pretty dang hot in SD. But I guess the wind makes up for it. So today was the first day of classes, or for some teachers and students it was the walkout thing that was planned for today. I went to Cognitive Science at 8am, it wasn't that bad. That was my first and last class for today which left me with a lot of free time.

I'm loving SD; I'm loving college life. It's awesome.

While I'm digging these 3 extra weeks of summer vacation, a part of me really wants to start school. Like now. I guess it's because of all the other people who've already started school talking about all the fun they're having and all that jazz. I want to move-in and meet my roommates in person; but that will have to wait until the 20th. Sucks that I have to move in a day after, almost, everyone else. I guess that's what happens when you have a sibling moving in too. Well, soon enough these 3 weeks will pass before I know it and I'll be in SD.

Which brings me to books. Thank you Facebook Marketplace, for reals. I got really lucky with my textbook situation and I was able to save over 300 bucks. How you like them apples? :]

Yesterday I got to hang out with Orlando and Jackson. Most of the time spent was conversation and reminiscing about the good ol' days. I hadn't had a chance to have that long of a talk with either of them since starting high school; since 6th grade with Orlando. And even though I've made friends here and there, I feel like I don't connect with them like I do with these two. Maybe it's because everyone else spent so much of their early childhood with those people, as is the case with us three. It's a lot easier to go on and on about most everything. (Oh, and we talked about you Cindy. How Orlando would help you on Spanish but you would never help him in physics. And how he'd make you mad. Good time. :]) It was a lot of fun, and regardless of the fact that we'll all be going our separate ways, I think we'll keep in touch for sure.

I've been roaming around always looking down and all I see...July's come and gone and August is here. The past couple weeks have been dominated by my playing on my laptop. Namely, FreeCell, Solitaire, Hearts, the card games...Painted faces fill the places I can't reach...I haven't really gone out this week, if at all. And I was looking through my phonebook today, deleting the people I don't really talk to. I think I deleted about 75-80% of them. Hello, Facebook...You know that I can use somebody...I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm stoked for UCSD. Everything seems to come by very slowly though. Registration is is late August and we find out our roommates in early September. Ah, the suspense...Someone like you.

There's a week left of summer school. Technically I don't have to go. I just have to finish one last worksheet and take my final, all online. Then it's two months of trying to occupy myself without getting too bored out of my mind. It shouldn't be too hard to pass the time by, especially preparing for college and all that. Dorm shopping sometime in September. And basketball with the guys once every week. There's also paintballing. I still have to watch Harry Potter. Should be a fun end to the summer. Even more fun is the start of school. I just hope my schedule works out. I'm bound to have a couple of afternoon lectures and my midterms are at night, sadly. Aside from academics I really want to partake in athletics. No matter if it's intramurals or intercollegiate. Intercollegiate would be a stretch. =X

It's 3:40 am and I just finished my humanities homework as I just came back from Vegas. And I am exhausted, although I don't think I can sleep now since I have school in a couple hours. Maybe I'll run later to get my mind going, blood flowing and all that.

But that's besides the point. Point is, I'm tired, but it's a good kind of tired. For the first time since, ever, I've had a productive summer. Of course, it's early, but things are looking up. And even though summer school has taken up the bulk of the schedule, I've managed to keep myself occupied, not including Facebook.

Running, for one, has been great. It seems to me that a lot of people are running nowadays to get that "college body" and to get ready for that Freshmen 15. Anyhow, I guess I'm running for the same reasons. Although I wonder if it's better to run in the mornings or in the hot afternoon?

Here's to more fun ahead. Minus the two essays I have to write.

So this past weekend was the orientation session for SD. It was a really fun experience. And I actually made some friends. That aside, we spent the majority of the time going to lectures and presentations about college life and getting involved. Then there was our academic advising session where we got a general idea of what classes were good to take and all that. One thing that stood out during orientation was one lecture about meeting new people. The speaker talked about friends in high school, and those in college. In college people are more or less a family and you're more inclined to stay friends with them in the future. I thought that was an interesting point.

In any event, orientation was awesome. The OL's were really funny.

Graduation has come and gone and it feels great. I miss everyone, but what can you do right? I can only hope that we meet again someday. And for a select few I hope we can put in the effort to stay in touch no matter how far apart we may be.

In any event, I got a laptop as a graduation gift. I really didn’t expect to get one until I started school in September, so I’m happy about that. And yesterday was the beach/bonfire event. That was pretty fun; a nice way to spend some time with friends before summer school and whatever other plans we have. And it’s a wallet-friendly alternative to Grad Night, although either would’ve been fun.

And I’m pretty stoked for SD orientation tomorrow. Excited to meet new people and all that good stuff that comes with going to a new school.

Two more days. And quite honestly, I don't feel the least bit nostalgic that we're all leaving or regretful for what didn't do or what I could've done. I'm ready to get out of high school. As fun as it was, these past four years, it wasn't very friendly to me. So a new start far, far away will do good for me. I'm excited.

I have two papers to finish before I check-out. I've been pulling all-nighters the past week and a half now trying to get things done. Ah, well, good practice for college isn't it?

We're watching this Japanese movie in Velazquez's class and needless to say, I'm a little pissed off by the reviews of the other students. I mean yeah, it's in Japanese and they don't know what the hell they characters are saying. Subtitles, anyone? If you're really trying to get it but end up not liking, I can understand that. But if you watch the first 2 minutes and call it a stupid movie, that's an insult. Not only to me but to Velazquez. It's funny, I hear people saying everyday how they want to learn Japanese and how cool Japan is. And now it's along the lines of "japanese movies suck. i don't understand anything."

This week really blows.

So...senior year is slowly...quickly coming to an end. You would think at this point it's there's not much else to do. I guess not. I have a 1984 essay and sports med. project due Tuesday, none of which I have started on. And two research papers due the 9th. What a way to end the year. Worst comes to worse, I'll go on a massive BS run through all of my papers.

Up until now I haven't really put much thought into college, just about getting through high school. Now, I'm pretty darn excited. That might actually be an understatement.

One whole day wasted for Government. Damn, that'll be a drag.

Been a while.
And...I guess it's safe to say a lot has happened during that time. 2nd vs. 3rd basketball was pretty fun. Though it was the most tiring game I've played, if I may say so myself. The extra credit points bumped me up to a B. Now I just have to keep working at it.
The musical, that's another. Pretty fun to watch. Emily was very funny.
College admissions notices have all but come and gone. This is probably where most of the "a lot" has gone on. From an LA hopeful to an SD winter admit to completely unsure of my future plans. Getting rejected from LA sucked, but at the same time it was probably better for me. San Diego can kiss my ass for admitting me for winter. No matter how nice they try to put it, it's still the same message to me. "We don't really care if you come here or not." So, with the way things are going at this point...hello, Irvine?

Basketball for a better grade. That's the first I've heard of it. But that's what's gonna go down. The difference between a C and a B rests on 3rd period. Haha. Sounds so dramatic.

I ran for the first time in over three weeks, maybe even a month. That felt really great. I saw Erin Dang on the way to Live Oak. Good to see him again.

Long weekends are good, most times. When you have things to do anyways. I didn't have anything to do, so in turn I didn't do anything at all. No homework, upcoming tests, nothing. Only highlight of the weekend was NBA All-Star Weekend, and even that was somewhat of a disappointment. Dunk contest was weak, although kudos to Shaq and Kobe getting co-MVP for the All-Star game. Anyone else see Shaq's dance with the JabbaWockeez? Good stuff. The rest of the time was spent on the computer, either on Facebook or re-arranging music and stuff on my iPod.

I'm new to this kind of stuff. Someone help me out here.

February is here, and well, it's not off to a good start. The Cardinals lost to the Pittsburg Steelers in the last minutes of the 4th quarter. Ugh, pobre ;[. Okay, so it's not so bad, it's just a game, as the saying goes. Although year by year, I've become a bigger football fan. Never saw that coming.

My mind is stuffed. I haven't cranked out so many math problems in one sitting, ever. Over 6 or 7 hours worth spent working on the review packet that I actually understood. Although I skipped a lot of them I knew what the hell I was doing. That's something to be proud of considering I never have a clue of what I'm doing during class. Jenn would know.

It's been over a week since I've last blogged on this thing. Let's recap shall we?

Well, actually, there's nothing really worth mentioning. Although today is New Years Eve. I suppose this is why I decided to blog. In any event, 2008 has come and gone. It doesn't seem too long ago that I was at Winterball, am I right? Or the fact that graduation is staring me straight in the face and college is awaiting. I could definitely say that this past year has been a learning year for me, especially when it comes to socializing with people...and such. Lesson I learned? Grow some juevos, that's what. And that the majority of asian guys, if not all asian guys, are big va-jay-jays with no juevos. [: True story. (Actually, I got that from a featured blog. Win.)

And with 2009 comes a busy six months ahead. The semester is soon ending and I really need to raise my calculus grade, seriously. After that, I'm probably done with school, mentally. But I know something going to keep me from doing that and I'll end up studying anyway. An as March rolls around...*drum roll*...well, you guys know what up. ;] Best of luck to all of you. Anyway, that YouTube symphony piece is really challenging. Haven't been able to get that solo down, or any other part of the music. Part of it has to do with not having played the trumpet in ages. Most of it, actually.

Anyway, the grading period is ending tomorrow. Calculus is the only class I'm worried about...I hate going to calculus class. I dread going to third period everyday. I really feel stupid in there. Love the people in there though. It's fun talking to Jennifer, though I feel like I annoy her. I never seem to be able to help her with work, I apologize. Jacquelyn is pretty darn funny, and Elena is pretty cool too. I just hate feeling like the only one who doesn't know what's going on.
Mm...I just hope I get a B in that class.

I don't have any money to buy Jennifer. Ahah. I think it would be better just to ask her out to lunch. But that's just me.
